How to Change the Oil on Your Motorcycle

Materials:
- New oil filter
- New oil
- Oil drain pan
- Wrench or socket set
- Funnel
- Oil filter wrench (if necessary)
- Oil filter wrench (if necessary)
Steps:
- Warm up your motorcycle by running it for a few minutes. Warm oil will flow more easily and help to flush out any contaminants.
- Turn off the engine and let it cool for a few minutes. You don’t want to work on a hot engine, as it can be dangerous.
- Locate the oil drain plug. It is usually located on the underside of the engine, near the bottom of the oil pan. Consult your owner’s manual if you’re unsure where the drain plug is located.
- Place an oil drain pan underneath the drain plug to catch the old oil.
- Use a wrench or socket set to loosen the oil drain plug. Be careful not to burn yourself with any hot oil that may come out.
- Once the old oil has drained out completely, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it with the wrench or socket set.
- Locate the oil filter. It is usually located on the side of the engine, and you may need to use an oil filter wrench to remove it. Again, consult your owner’s manual if you’re unsure where the oil filter is located.
- Use a clean cloth or paper towel to wipe away any dirt or debris around the oil filter.
- Install the new oil filter by hand. Make sure it is tightened securely but don’t over-tighten it.
- Use a funnel to add the new oil to the engine. Make sure you add the correct amount of oil as specified in your owner’s manual.
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.
- Turn off the engine and check the oil level with the dipstick. Add more oil if necessary.
- Wipe away any oil spills or drips with a clean cloth.
- Dispose of the old oil and oil filter properly. Many auto parts stores accept used oil and filters for recycling.
That’s it! Following these steps should help you change the oil on your motorcycle, keeping your engine running smoothly and extending the life of your motorcycle.
